Luathas Mass 07/03/2025 - The History of the First Wizard, Jaalyn Sarag
The
following is the direct script I wrote for this sermon as opposed to a
record of the sermon itself, due to the nature of the subject matter.

of the video as well as at the bottom of the page, and on the temple
boards with this post.))

Greetings everyone, and welcome to the Luathas Temple.
My name is Iglis Viriou, and I am a Priest of these
grounds. For today's sermon, I thought it would be a
good idea to host a kind of mass I've held before. A
sort of history lesson, though I am not qualified to
give full history classes. This piece is directly tied
with Luathas, however, and thus I feel it is my place
as a member of the temple priests, as well as an
aspiring high clergy member, to teach of this tale.
When last I held a mass like this, I talked in length
of the Three Major Affronts to Luathas. I will be more
than happy to point you in the direction of the
accounts of these wrongdoings by the ancient Acadamie
Arcanus. However, that is not why I have gathered you
all here. Instead, I wish to elaborate more on a
pivotal character early on the the tales of these
affronts.
Some time during the Danaan 1400s, in the seventh
Aeon: Chaos... priests were still very new to
Hy-brasyl, the flourishing civilization at the time. As
we now know, Hy-brasyl was not fated to remain forever,
falling beneath the sea and drowning in the year of
Danaan 1703, in an era of madness where these priests
would go mad in search for divine knowledge from the
Gods after discovering Kadath. This era of madness is
directly tied to the Three Affronts to Luathas, to my
understanding, though I am more than willing to be
wrong in that regard and am open to being corrected.
Priests in Hy-brasyl were still very new to the world.
Two of these priests were young brothers of the Sarag
family, Chorel and Jaalyn. Our main focus is on Jaalyn Sarag.
These young men traveled far and wide throughout the lands
healing the ill wherever they could. They eventually became
regarded as some of the greatest priests of Hy-brasyl. For
many years, they traveled together, teaching their methods
of healing and their priestly ways. In Danaan 1409, the
brothers took it upon themselves to journey deep into the
forest on their way to a small, isolated mining village.
They were very fond of this journey in particular, because
it allowed them to be alone with just themselves and the
elements of nature surrounding them. On day five of their
journey, they found a young boy bleeding on the ground.
It looked as if he'd been beaten severely- not attacked by
a wild animal. The two brothers hurried to help the child.
Jaalyn, however, felt deep anxiety as he went about his
work. Despite this, he continued mending the child's
wounds as their injuries took priority.
Suddenly, six large men surrounded them. They were
cloaked in dark green and black, to blend in with the
trees and shadows. Each held a weapon in their hands.
Some wielded axes, others held long knives, but the
largest man... He wielded an extremely large sword. The
written records don't make mention of the type of
sword, but I imagine it to be a Caidheamh or Broad Sword.
The large men stepped forward and demanded they step
away from the boy. Chorel rose to his feet and told the
man that the child would persih without their aid. The
man told them that they intentionally left the boy
there to die. They had beaten him after they caught him
trying to steal food from the men's packs. They wanted
the child to suffer a slow death. Chorel quickly became
enraged upon hearing this and went to strike the man.
Faster than Jaalyn could believe, the man brought his
sword up as if it were but a toy, and brought it down
on his brother's head.
Jaalyn sat there for a moment, dazed. Then, in almost
an instant, he was flooded with hatred and grief.
Jaalyn stood up and reached deep inside himself,
finding a power he had never felt before. He drew upon
this power, releasing it at the large man. It came to
existence in the form of fire. It struck the man and
consumed him, swallowing him whole as he screamed, his
flesh melting and burning until he fell to ash before
everyone who remained.
The other five men stood, staring at the pile of soot
that was once their companion. Before they had an
opportunity to react, Jaalyn turned and, in his anger,
released the same power from before. This time, all
five of the remaining men were consumed in flame. When
the fires and screaming had ceased, Jaalyn fell
unconscious from the energy he used and exhaustion that
now wracked his body, falling to the floor limply.
Then... he was revived. He turned and looked around to
find that everything within 20 yards was burned to
cinders. Included in that were the bodies of the six
men, his brother, and the boy they were so desperately
trying to save. Suddenly however, lights began to
appear around him. They started very faint, and grew
until they slowly formed into five unique figures. He
recognized them as the gods from his studies as a
priest. He looked at each of their glowing faces, first
Ceannlaidir, then Cail, Fiosachd, Luathas, and finally,
Glioca.
Immediately, he could see something wasn't right.
Glioca, the goddess which he worshiped, stepped
forward with a great sadness in her eyes. "My child,"
she said, her thoughts ringing in Jaalyn's mind. "We
had hoped that this time would never come. Since it has
though, and can not be changed, we must move on. You
can no longer be a priest, for you have violated the
oath which you had given to heal others. You must find
another god who will accept you as theirs and will lead
you on that path that you have found."
As her words finished ringing within Jaalyn's head, he
could feel the bond between him and his goddess
disappear. He fell to his knees in anguish. First his
brother... Now his goddess... Was he truly to be
forsaken by all he holds dear?
It was then that Luathas stepped forward and
proclaimed, "I will take you as my own, but you must
take a new oath."
Jaalyn looked up immediately, surprise visible on his
face. "Anything." he whispered.
Luathas extended his hand to Jaalyn in that moment. "I
will teach you to use this power you have found. You
will no longer be able to use the healing powers you
once possessed. From this moment on, you will no longer
be a healer, but a protector. You will teach others of
the things I will show you. You will search the world
for darkness and destroy it. Rise my child, for you are
now a Wizard."
Jaalyn finally stood once more. Then, Ceannlaidir,
Cail, and Fiosachd bowed their heads to Luathas before
disappearing in the light that they appeared in. Glioca
turned towards Luathas as well before confiding in her
fellow god, "Please protect him, brother." Luathas
nodded to her in solidarity, affirming he would honor
her wish. Then, Glioca turned to Jaalyn. "A present for
you, Wizard." Jaalyn looked down to see himself wearing
strange dark robes. When he looked up, the goddess was
gone. And thus... the first wizard was born.
